For me what makes the pitch “sporting” is largely one factor - the bounce. Ever since Mohali “died”, Chepauk is probably the only pitch in the subcontinent where there is good bounce, and I am curious where its soil came from. And what makes it interesting is, unlike bouncy pitches in Australia or South Africa, the pitch also takes turn later in the match. That is probably because the surface breaks up more than overseas pitches. It is a difficult balance to achieve due to the inherent trade-off - a pitch with healthy bounce as well as late turn.
