Bitches strike back.

After half a decade of pounding, 2008 is unfolding nicely as the ‘bitches payback year’. First it was Djokovic, then a couple of flat footed Americans and now everyone will look at the draw hoping Federer’s their first round opponent.

Loss to Roddick. Ippo enna seiveenga, ippo enna seiveenga?

Now, I have no one to hate. Since everyone is losing. Enna panrathu?

    Haha - he returns..he returns!!

quick question - does a flat Eastern grip forehand make you particularly disadvantaged against rampaging topspin Continental grip players? I’ve got quite used to the former and find it difficult to develop a top-spin facet to my game. Any suggestions?

top spin with Continental grip??? There’s only one guy I know who played that way - Alberto Berasategui, but then they chose to call it Extreme Western.

The best way to develop top spin is to start with a semi-western grip (rotate your racquet anti-clockwise by one bevel/45 deg) and slowly make the transition into a western grip by another such rotation and you have the grip that 85% of the players in the tour seem to use nowadays.

Spin can’t do shit to an eastern forehand. Perhaps you need to take the ball a little early to avoid the extra bounce. Backhand is a bigger issue. Extreme top spin is hard to handle off the backhand with an eastern grip.

And there’s nothing called a flat Eastern grip. It is the most flexible grip ever.

I will be in Hyderabad for about a week from next Wednesday. If you like, we can play a game. I will live in Gandhinagar/HiTech city depending on where my father decides to let me stay. But traveling to play is not a problem. Are you interested?

Hmm..the racquet face is parallel to the ground with the continental - typically it is a good starting point to hit whipping top-spin forehands. I find it difficult to do with an Eastern grip since I start with my racquet head plane vertical to the plane of the ground. My racquet faceends up serving as a flat board at the point of contact - atleast that’s how the forehand has been hardwired in my head.

Interesting part about the Eastern backhand. I am doublehanded so I find it slightly flexible but when it comes to volleying, I again need to shift the grip a little. I am disadvantaged on the backhand against spin now that you mentioned it. The Eastern grip is flexible alright, but years of conditioning and frequent breaks in play have made it all the more difficult to shift styles.

I don’t reach Hyd until mid April. 15th and later is when I might have settled down ideally. I have 2 weeks of orientation and all that shit to deal with at ISB. Playing will be difficult, but would love to meet up with you for a couple of hours. Hi-tech is only 20 mins or so from campus. Mail me when you reach town ‘nevermind1980 at yahoo dot com”

Looks like there’s a nomenclature issue. What you are talking about is the Western grip - not Continental. As far as I know, hardly any one uses continental grips anymore, except for volleys and serves.

Taking the ball on the rise is the only way to counter spin with an eastern forehand. Taking spin isn’t the problem with your forehand, its the bounce because the eastern forehand is not sufficiently closed to counter the bounce.

double handed backhands shouldn’t be a problem, if you open the face of your racquet a little more when you come in closer to the net. Typically Continental grip is the best for volleys.

Having a poor technique in shot making is bragging va? Or is getting ibto a B-school bragging?

I must say, it speaks rather poorly of Maanga community.

What is the libertarian position on the catastrophic failure of subprime and Bear Stearns? Wouldnt it be deliciously ironical to have something along the lines of I,CDO (contrast to much quoted I, pencil)
I haven’t read anything so far about why it is not a market failure apart from the staid pieces on why regulation is not the solution
