Let’s forget all this for a while - there are more burning issues facing the country, inflation, for example. Avataram, I would like an op-ed piece on what it would mean if (ever) the dollar equals a rupee. Apart from a reverse migration of almost all Indians from the US, I am really curious to know how it would fundamentally change the economy and our way of life.
With exports just being 15% of GDP, I am not in favor of constant RBI intervention to keep the exchange rate at some “desirable” levels and would much rather have it keep an end-goal of supplanting the dollar with the rupee as the world’s reserve currency (if we don’t work towards that, the Chinese will one day usurp that honor too).
There are of course many benefits when 1 USD = 1 INR but I am interested in what you will come up with, if that hypothetical situation were to turn into reality at some point.
