I am sure there is some social research published somewhere on the point of optimality for democratic values and knowledge driven social order. I am also reasonably sure no one reading this post would have come across such publication; even if they did, I am sure it does not apply to present day Tamil Nadu.
In other words, is this a reasonable postulation: the emergence of Dalit parties is directly responsible for the visible and increasing clamor for Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar’s association and legacy. In MGR’s Tamil Nadu, it would have made no sense to celebrate Thevar Jayanthi when the ADMK’s other vote bank was Dalit.
The other question: if the DMK is coopting it too, does that mean the Nadars are deserting them or do the Nadars not care anymore given how relatively wealthy they have become in the past two generations.
