About putting sound

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

There is an existential problem with being a condescending know-it-all. Life has a way of catching up with knowledge however reluctant one may be.

Interesting though is how long it takes some. Stunning really, if that’s 5 years of internet time and still some distance to go. Or is that time? Stunniger is confidently sounding off after the idea of doing that died many years ago. Especially when anyone who has never set foot inside a Law School can type Article 368 on the Internets and find that one of the conditions for an ammendment is,

the provisions of this article, the amendment shall also require to be ratified by the Legislature of not less than one half of the States by resolution to that effect passed by those Legislatures before the Bill making provision for such amendment is presented to the President for assent

The question one will appreciate these louts answering is: why are the regional parties from the Gangetic plain alone in opposing this ammendment? After all, the biggest parties to draw their strengths primarily from a lower caste politics are regional parties from the south. Oh wait. Got it. So we have a first-past the pole system! See, I should be more condescending.

One more thing. Varma boy is reformed. He even gets recursion and WTF.

I am in a phase where I think writing fiction is what the talented do; the reasonable read them. And, idiots write opinion pieces or analyses. While the silent majority tries to be funny; making it not so silent and hence a minority. Which explains why this blog is dead. Or, should be.

Or, why this Arnab person is truly funny.

Guess the genre

Today’s Guess the Genre of Writing contest comes from Ravikiran Rao. Is this tragedy or comedy or travel writing? The correct answer gets a personalized I am Sriram.

Bad writing

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

Much like porn, one can’t define good writing; it can only be read. Though, bad writing, it is becoming increasingly clear, can. Especially those that attempt humor – a good example. Humor, or a particular style of it, by definition, has to become stale relatively quickly; after all, there are only so many ways in which it can be achieved. The poorer the quality of the writing, lesser its longevity. Barath falls into a category of appealing to emotions with some misdirection and ambiguity thrown in. The milieu is Tamil upbringing. That theme is so straight forward that someone who has read him a few times can predict the set up and punch line; assume the narrative drift and the mock philosophical conclusions. All without even reading his write-up. Maybe it’s unfair to him that I use his example — he is a poor writer — even the more gifted writers of prose with a greater degree of sophistication fall victims.

Greatbong, Krish Ashok and several others are ready examples of belabored attempts at humor that are way past their laugh by dates[1]. The simple yardstick to measure bad writing in all the above instances is — people started to react. Of course, if they had not, they would have still sucked. However, the feedback makes the slotting of oneself that much more easier and thus becomes an irreversible process. There is no way in which Greatbong or Barath can now become funny.

When I started this rant, I thought I had a great idea on how eventually all blogs or these extended forms of interactions will be self limiting. But that now seems so fucking obvious that I don’t know why I started to write on it. Which probably explains the point of this more beautifully than I can.

[1] — One could add this blog to that list as well — but that would again be a bad attempt at a bad joke.

Is the downturn so bad?

Why would anyone write this?

At least, fundamentalists have an agenda. What’s this Mishra person’s excuse?

Jagadguru, please spit.

This man seems to have a lot of spare time. In which he wants to randomly spew right wing crap. Which would have made him merely a nutcase and an infidel; thus acceptable.

Now, he wants to also randomly ramble on federalism. Further, he also wants to quote MK Gandhi to define India and Omar Abdullah for I don’t understand what. Finally this Hindu Terrorist seems to think his definition of India is somehow binding on all others. I have decided to teach this fundamentalist a few things. With your blessings, Oh Jagadguru, I shall start with history lessons. Beginning at the Philadelphia Convention.

Did Amit Varma’s mother deserve such a poor obit?

Nilu, if you have to be an idiot, at least be a classy one.

regards

- The Other Nilu

TON,  If you want to be considerate to the dead and show compassion for the living, good for you. Good for Varma’s mother and he, too. I am not playing that game.

- Nilu

Nilu,

This isn’t about being compassion, Amit Varma, MDMK or any other such rot. This is about class. It’s best acquired by knowing when to shut up. Sometimes about a specific issue, and sometimes altogether.

Regards

The Other Nilu

That was settled long ago. If you want class, go to school.

- Nilu

Dear Nilu,

Kettena?

The Other Nilu

Kekkamale sonnen. That only style.

Hindu Astrology has always come to stand for prediction, and therefore unscientific. However, the original texts clearly distinguish between Jyautishya and Phala Jyautishya. Jyautishya means astronomy while the latter term literally means “astronomy with a result/fruit,” which approximates in meaning to astrology. By his own account, AKR’s father was a phala jyautishi. Secondly, in calling the Gita a religious text, which always means a Hindu equivalent text to the Koran or Bible , AKR displays the first instance of either ignorance or deliberate mischaracterization. The paper provides numerous instances to lead me to believe that the latter is true.

Now, let’s bet. How many different pairs of boobs has this Sandeep person felt (up?).

PS: Gasquet fan, where is the widget?

PPS: Both boys, namely this Sandeep person and the author he dissects, don’t seem to have read Kant. They should really shut up — but they (or he) will not and we can’t bet on a certainty.

I am thinking businessmen

Thursday, June 12th, 2008
Think of a good phone for businessmen and what comes on top of mind is the Blackberry. Maybe a Nokia E-series phone. Apple iPhone really doesn’t figure in the list. It after all, has a strong ‘high-end consumer phone’ image.

This is the number one need that businessmen look for in a business phone.

What are you wearing thinking?

Was this not discussed already?

Now, Amit, please tell why you support slavery. Or untouchability. Or dowry. Or sati, child marriage and the rest.
