Asking for it

There are about a billion people in the country. Half or more can’t read or write; a quarter can’t feed themselves. There is not enough money for several basic things, despite the boom. In short, India is still third world. Then, this man, probably because he earns more than what he should, writes,

A recent example of government dysfunction was the Goa government’s handling of the Scarlett Keeling case: when ministers and top cops come on TV and blame a young girl’s rape on her mother because she left the kid alone, it makes the skin crawl.

Blame the fucking journalist who asked the minister for a reaction. Or, shut up. If there was a lone minor girl, who was drunk — or an adult who was sober, for that matter — this society cannot afford to bother. If one wants to live first world lives in third world places, there are costs. And that is sometimes, rape and murder. That cost does not stop there and includes official apathy.

As a matter of fact, if I were a voter in Goa, I’d simply ransack Amit Varma’s house. I’d do it even if I weren’t. Which I am not. Hence I will. Because I can. And this, is India.
