N Ram is the man everyone here might think of when the words “The editor” are mentioned; For me, it has always been Sunanda K Datta-Ray. Maybe this is because I grew up in Calcutta, where you read the Statesman everyday and got the Telegraph only on saturdays (or was it sundays?) for the color supplement.

Here, he takes apart Ramachandra Guha´s book, India after Gandhi, that I have railed against earlier. “Why this gargantuan regurgitation of facts with which we have lived all our lives?” he asks.
